Like many others, I often find myself caught in inner turmoil, searching through introspection and reflection for a path to happiness in the secular world.

In times of anxiety and confusion, I try to tame the stormy reactions within my heart and the entanglements of my inner world through self-examination and quiet contemplation.

Each time I revisit an episode of inner conflict, and each resolution to change, is a kind of spiritual rebirth—a phoenix rising from the ashes.

In other words, in the process of introspection, the former “me” has already perished, and a new “me” is born from the ruins.

—And perhaps this is precisely the meaning conveyed in the final movement of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, the “Resurrection.”
